| Harry built his first race car when he was just 13 years old, too young to drive it. But Harry took those years of apprentice to his father to good use, and today 32 years later, has been dominating the oval at several short tracks. "Dad" (Harry Sr.) drove late models around here for 32 years and did really well. Dad alway encouraged me and helped me put together my first car , even know I was not old enought to drive it said Harry. Year to date Harry Jr. has collected over 250 Main features and countless #'s of heats and dashes. In the long list of accomplishments a few of them are : 2 time Paul Beebe Memorial winner, 3 time Harvest 100 winner (only driver to win 3) March of Dimes Special, Kalamazoo Klash "B" winner. To top off some great wins Harry has collected 5 track championships with two of them in the same years at 2 different tracks. Harry sets his sights high and always looks for the best and that's what he found when in 1987 he joined forces with John Shipe owner of Proformance Racing Engines to form F&S Motorsports. Not only have these two become great friends they still know how to get that winning edge at the track. Once again setting sights high to be the best in 1999 John Brannum joined F&S Motorsports and with the 3 of them together they just got better and stronger. Any time this teams rolls into a track everyone knows they are not there to finish second. What is Harry's good luck charm? Ask him and it's his wife Marge of 31 years. In 2004 Harry will be competing in his 32 year of racing and quiting is not in his sights as of yet. Galesburg Speedway was the home for this young gun for many years until 2000 when they made the move to Kalamazoo Speedway for a 3 year run collecting 2 Main wins and a few heat race wins. Harry has won races at almost every local track and even some out of state: Galesburg Speedway, Kalamazoo Speedway, Hartford Speedway,Mottville Speedway, Spartan Speedway,Michigan/Springport Speedway, Owosso Speedway, Auto City Speedway, Kalamazoo county fairgrounds, Bear Field Speedway, Angola Speedway, and Shady Bowl Speedway. Harry has spend many years as a competitor and in 1995 got to follow in his dad's foot steps helping his son Aj build his first car. Harry after 31 years is still looking for that ever lasting high, and is not willing just yet to give up what has spanded over most of his life and that is the thrill, and excitement of Auto Racing. |
| In 1995 Aj started his racing career in the mini stock division at Galesburg Speedway. With help from father Harry he buit his first car a 1988 ford escort wagon and competed in only three races. In 1996 Aj returned to Galesburg to run the mini stocks for the full season, that same year Aj would win his first ever feature race and a heat race, giving him a 7th place finish in the points. In 1997 he would built a new car and run only half the season finishing in 20th place for the season point. 1998 Aj would return once agian to run the mini stocks taking his lumps and then some. Aj would win a couple heat races, and finish 5th in the point race. With his father's help they would start work on one of the most dominating cars to be built at the time ,a 1979 Ford Mustang. In 1999 Aj joined forces with John Shipe of Proformance Racing Engines. 1999 was the year for this young gun to strut his stuff. Setting a new track record opening day beating the old one by over a second. Winning a total of 25 races at Galesburg Speedway, Spartan Speedway, and Butler Motor Speedway giving him the most improved driver award, and giving him his first track championship at Galesburg Speedway. You would think that winning a Championship in just your 4th full season would be great and it was but being able to share the spot light with father Harry was ever better. Harry would win the super late model title the same year. Giving the track their first father/son champions in the same year. Year 2000 brought new challenges to the team. Moving up to the Sportsman division things were back to the learning stage and boy did he need to learn. Aj would finish 11th in the over all points standings and collected Rookie of the year honors. 2001 would bring the biggest challenge to date and that was the move to Kalamazoo Speedway. In the first year Aj collected a couple top five finishes and a couple top tens giving him a 9th place finish in the point race and collecting another Rookie of the year honors in the limited late model division. 2002 brought lows lows and more lows as the season just didn't bring any luck. After a couple great runs, Aj would finish up the season with a tenth place finish in the points race. 2003 brought out highs and lows for A&M Motorsports with Aj collecting two A heat wins at Kalamazoo and his first ever A late model feature win at Galesburg Speedway. With just 8 years under his belt Aj looks to be keeping the family tradition alive and on the winning track. Don't look for this youngster to go any where soon he has his sights set on a few more championships and alot more wins before he calls it quits. There is nothing like the feeling of carrying a family name and tradition so proudly. Good or bad the fact remains that this 3 generation racing family knows what it takes to get the winning done, says Aj. |
